Summary
This compendium and its annexes aim to provide a basic understanding of climatology and its applications. The compendium is structured to cover the climatological material recommended by the World Meteorological Organization for training Class III and Class IV personnel. It is addressed particularly to those personnel who are, or will be, mainly involved in operational climatology, rather than in weather forecasting or observation. Although designed as a training manual, the compendium also attempts to show how the work of an operational climatologist may be related to wider fields - scientific, social and economic.
