Summary
This booklet, a contribution to the Second United Nations Conference on Human Settlements (HABITAT II) in Istanbul, reviews the relationship between climate and human settlement. Focus is on how urbanization may influence both the local climate and global climate change. It is suggested that any negative influence can be mitigated through planning, building and operating urban areas in harmony with climate.
