ECMWF - Strategy 2006-2015
ECMWF, 2005The vision guiding this strategy is that European citizens will continue to receive the very best meteorological forecasting services at all ranges, particularly regarding severe weather. The superiority already achieved in global and local numerical weather prediction will be maintained and extended to other aspects of the environment. This will guarantee optimal return on the large investment made in observing systems, particularly in meteorological and environmental satellites. Benefits will accrue to all sectors of European economy and society and to the entire Earthobservation community. ...

This will guarantee optimal return on the large investment made in observing systems, particularly in meteorological and environmental satellites. Benefits will accrue to all sectors of European economy and society and to the entire Earthobservation community. Achieving this vision at an affordable cost will necessitate enhancing the already good cooperation between the observation providers, the prediction centres and the service providers, which together form the European Meteorological Infrastructure1. Within this infrastructure, ECMWF will play a leading and co-ordinating role for global Numerical Weather Prediction.

TIGGE LAM
TIGGE-LAM currently groups five European ensemble systems in a standard data format, and five more will be added in the near future [see table].
TIGGE-LAM is an extension of the THORPEX Interactive Grand Global Ensemble (TIGGE) archive to include weather forecasts from limited area model (LAM) ensembles. These forecasts are produced on grids between 10 and 2 km resolution and provide detailed information for the short range, up to a few days ahead. This complements the larger-scale information provided by the global data in the established TIGGE archive.
