The Vulnerability Sourcebook : concept and guidelines for standardised vulnerability assessments
The Vulnerability Sourcebook sourcebook provides a standardised approach to vulnerability assessments covering a broad range of sectors and topics (e.g. water sector, agriculture, fisheries, different ecosystems) as well as different spatial levels (community, sub-national, national) and time horizons (e.g. current vulnerability or vulnerability in the medium- to long-term). It refers to vulnerability as ‘the degree to which a system is susceptible to, and unable to cope with, adverse effects of climate change, including climate variability and extremes. Vulnerability is a function of the char ...

It refers to vulnerability as ‘the degree to which a system is susceptible to, and unable to cope with, adverse effects of climate change, including climate variability and extremes. Vulnerability is a function of the character, magnitude, and rate of climate change and variation to which a system is exposed, its sensitivity, and its adaptive capacity.’ Based on this definition, the Vulnerability Sourcebook distinguishes between and assesses four key components that determine whether, and to what extent, a system is susceptible to climate change: exposure, sensitivity, potential impact and adaptive capacity.

Adaptation made to measure: a guidebook to the design and results-based monitoring of climate change adaptation projects
GIZ, 2013Considering the rapidly expanding adaptation portfolios in most international cooperation institutions, there is a need to support project managers, particularly in designing and monitoring projects focussing on climate change adaptation. This guide by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is aimed at government representatives, donors and non-governmental organisations involved in planning and implementing adaptation projects. This guide by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is aimed at government representatives, donors and non-governmental organisations involved in planning and implementing adaptation projects. It is also intended as a reference source for national and international organisations, NGOs and research bodies that require a practical framework for the results-based design of adaptation interventions and verification of the results achieved. The guide is divided into three parts: an introduction; a practical part explaining the recommended step-by-step approach to designing an adaptation project and setting up its monitoring system; and a summary.

Adaptation to climate change with a focus on rural areas in India
The publication provides an overview of the main issues in current adaptation discussions and suggests adaptation options in six different fields related to rural areas: (i) agriculture; (ii) forests; (iii) biodiversity; (iv) water resources; (v) coastal zones; and (vi) disaster risk management. It describes concepts and approaches for adaptation and its integration into development planning using examples from India, as well as other parts of the world, to illustrate how existing theory can be put into practice.

Local flood early warning system (LFEWS)
This document reports on Philippines Region 8's accumulated experience and knowledge in the setting up and management of local flood early warning systems (LFEWS), which aims to reduce human vulnerability and suffering by monitoring sources of floods, predicting where and when floods could possibly happen, identifying who would be affected and strengthening the capacity of local disaster risk reduction and management institutions to make informed decisions. It describes the impacts observed in terms of saving lives and properties, improving institutional performance of local governments and in ...

It describes the impacts observed in terms of saving lives and properties, improving institutional performance of local governments and increasing public awareness in three local flood early warning systems in Leyte island. It is intended to early warning practitioners and political decision makers.
