Over the past two decades, there has been an increasing awareness of the potential damages that climate change, air and water pollution and inadequate natural resources management could induce upon human health, natural ecosystems and the economy. To address these concerns, considerable emphasis has been placed on sustainable development by many countries and international organizations. Accordingly, sustainable agricultural development has become a major issue of the 21 st century.
