WCDMP, 84. Eighth Seminar for Homogenization and Quality Control in Climatological Databases and Third Conference on Spatial Interpolation Techniques in Climatology and Meteorology
The 8th Homogenization Seminar and the 3rd Conference on Spatial Interpolation were organized together considering certain theoretical and practical respects. Theoretically there is a strong connection between these topics since the homogenization and quality control procedures need spatial statistics and interpolation techniques for spatial comparison of data. On the other hand the spatial interpolation procedures (e.g. gridding) need homogeneous data series with high quality. Practically the CARPATCLIM project that was launched in 2010 and ended in 2013 is a good example for this problem. Th ...

On the other hand the spatial interpolation procedures (e.g. gridding) need homogeneous data series with high quality. Practically the CARPATCLIM project that was launched in 2010 and ended in 2013 is a good example for this problem. The main purpose of the project was to produce a gridded database for the Carpathian region based on homogenized data series. The experiences of this project may be useful for the implementation of gridded databases.

WCDMP, 77. Guidelines for the submission of the World Weather Records tenth series (2001-2010)
The World Weather Records (WWR) database contains historical monthly climatic data from land surface stations worldwide. First released in 1927, the WWR database has been widely employed in operational climate monitoring, international climate assessments, and numerous other applications. To date, there have been nine editions of WWR, the first containing data up through 1920, with each successive release containing data for another decade (i.e., 1921-1930, 1931- 1940, 1941-1950, 1951-1960, 1961-1970, 1971-1980, 1981-1990, 1991- 2000). Since its inception, WWR has been produced by three ...

WCDMP, 70. Guidelines for Plant Phenological Observations
The technical document on the guidelines for plant phenological observations raises the benefits of these types of observations in monitoring the impact of the changing climate on an important biosphere element of the climate system which is vegetation. The content of the document was elaborated by experts in climatology and biometeorology in a multidisciplinary team work approach. The guidelines included in the document are based on scientifically recognized principles and good practices undertaken by several institutions having long experience in carrying out plant phonological observations ...

WCDMP, 76. Proceedings of the sixth seminar for homogenization and quality control in climatological databases
The aim of the homogenization procedures is to detect the inhomogeneities and to correct the series. In practice there are absolute and relative methods applied for this purpose. However the application of absolute methods is very problematic and hazardous since the separation of climate change signal and the inhomogeneity signal is essentially impossible. Relative methods can be applied if there are more station series given, which can be compared mutually. The methodology of comparison is related to the following questions: reference series creation, difference series constitution, multiple ...

The global climate system review: June 1996 - December 2001
The seventh edition of the Global Climate System Review is a high-priority activity of the Commission for Climatology (CCl). It is based on climate system events covering the period of June 1996-December 2001, and continues the multi-annual series tradition that started with a review of the 1982-1984 period. The continuity with previous issues is maintained with updated analyses of traditional climate system monitoring (CSM) parameters and phenomena such as the global oceanatmosphere system and the surface variations in temperature and precipitation.

The global climate system review: December 1993- May 1996
The sixth edition is based on system events of the 1994 to 1996 period and provides continuity with previous issues with updated analyses of traditional climate system monitoring (CSM) parameters and phenomena such as El Niño/Southern Oscillation. It also attempts to broaden the perspective with expanded information on the oceans and, for the first time in the series, a look at what glaciers can tell us about current and past climates.
