Review of the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP)
World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) ; International Council for Science (ICSU); World Meteorological Organization (WMO) ; et al. - ICSU, 2018The report looks at WCRP’s structure and governance in the current context, considering the effectiveness of its operations and relationship with key partners, as well as its contributions to major international policy processes. Finally, the report looks ahead to the future of WCRP and makes a number of recommendations for WCRP to fulfil its mission in the context of 21st century challenges.World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) ; International Council for Science ; World Meteorological Organization (WMO) ; Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission

GCOS, 209. 19th Session of the GCOS /WCRP Terrestrial Observation Panel for Climate (TOPC-19)
World Meteorological Organization (WMO) ; United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO); Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC); et al. - WMO, 2017"This meeting [had] to consider its work plan which [included]
• A status report or similar in 4 years and update of IP in 5 years;
• Reviewing the performance of ECV observations and progress on actions in the implementation plan;
• Consideration of Adaptation Needs -> what does it mean for panel/observations;
• The proposal for Evaporation/Latent Heat Flux.
During the discussion it was stressed that the new work cycle of the TOPC after the release of the GCOS implementation plan will be challenging particularly because adaptation and mitigation will become ...Permalink![]()

GAW Report, 226. Coupled Chemistry-Meteorology/ Climate Modelling (CCMM): status and relevance for numerical weather prediction, atmospheric pollution and climate research
Online coupled meteorology atmospheric chemistry models have undergone a rapid evolution in recent years. Although mainly developed by the air quality modelling community, these models are also of interest for numerical weather prediction and climate modelling as they can consider not only the effects of meteorology on air quality, but also the potentially important effects of atmospheric composition on weather. This report provides the main conclusions from the Symposium on “Coupled Chemistry-Meteorology/Climate Modelling: Status and Relevance for Numerical Weather Prediction, Air Quality and ...Permalink![]()

WCDMP, 84. Eighth Seminar for Homogenization and Quality Control in Climatological Databases and Third Conference on Spatial Interpolation Techniques in Climatology and Meteorology
The 8th Homogenization Seminar and the 3rd Conference on Spatial Interpolation were organized together considering certain theoretical and practical respects. Theoretically there is a strong connection between these topics since the homogenization and quality control procedures need spatial statistics and interpolation techniques for spatial comparison of data. On the other hand the spatial interpolation procedures (e.g. gridding) need homogeneous data series with high quality. Practically the CARPATCLIM project that was launched in 2010 and ended in 2013 is a good example for this problem. Th ...Permalink![]()

WCDMP, 83. IDARE White Paper
Congress during its sixteenth session in 2011 welcomed the decision of the Commission for Climatology during its fifteenth session in 2010 for improving WMO Climate System Monitoring including related methodologies and dissemination of monitoring reports for timely information on extreme weather and climate events occurring on large scale and having high socioeconomic impacts. A brochure called "Assessment of the observed extreme conditions during the 2009/2010 boreal winter" was published by WMO in 2010 and is now followed by this supplement to the WMO annual statement on the status of the g ...Permalink![]()
