Integrated African Strategy on Meteorology (2021-2030) : Investing in weather, water, climate and early warning services for sustainable development
This revised Strategy on Meteorology (Weather, Water and Climate) of the African Ministerial Conference on Meteorology (AMCOMET) is a response to the request of the Fourth Ordinary Session of AMCOMET held in Cairo, Egypt in February 2019 for an updated Strategy. The session agreed that the AMCOMET Strategy on Meteorology should be revised to accommodate emerging issues relating to gender equality, data and infrastructure, research, development and innovation as well as public-private engagement.

AMCOMET Achievements 2010–2018
Many initiatives and partnerships have flourished under the umbrella of the African Union’s Strategy on Meteorology by aligning their actions with its priorities and demonstrating coherence of efforts. This report highlights key initiatives that have been made possible as a result of the increased visibility AMCOMET has brought to weather, climate and water services in Africa. The report gives us an opportunity to review the first eight years of AMCOMET and to give recognition to its many achievements.

Toronto 2015 – Pan and Parapan American Games: An Environment and Climate Change Canada Perspective
The Pan American and Parapan American Games are a regional international summer sporting event staged in the year prior to the Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games. The Pan American Sports Organiza¬tion awarded the 2015 Games to Canada in November 2009. Approximately 11 000 athletes, athlete support personnel and technical officials from 41 countries participated in the Toronto 2015 Pan American and Parapan American Games (Toronto Games). These were held in the Greater Toronto Area in the southern part of the province of Ontario from 10 to 26 July and 7 to 15 August 2015, respectively.

Making Meteorological Services more Beneficial to Farmers

Factoring weather and climate information into agricultural decision-making has optimized agricultural production in many countries. However, in developing countries – where most smallholder farms are rain-fed – access to weather and climate information to guide decision-making is limited. Governments should view such information, crucial to farmers, as a means of alleviating poverty and hunger.

Investment in meteorological services can generate widespread benefits for a community. These may take the form of small daily improvements in the lives of citizens and businesses (such as improved farming outlooks) as well as occasional benefits from improved planning for severe events.
Due to the diversity of ways that meteorological services can improve lives, it is not possible to determine with certainty their benefits. However, illustrations of the magnitude of the types of benefits may be identified.

La presente guía se orienta a los SMHN y tiene por objeto mostrar los beneficios que obtienen dichos Servicios al participar en el WWIS, además de ofrecer una orientación paso por paso a los Servicios Meteorológicos o Hidrometeorológicos Nacionales (SMN) que deseen, bien sea sumarse a la iniciativa WWIS o reforzar su nivel de participación. Asimismo, se facilitan plantillas de formularios normalizados que los SMHN deberán completar para participar en el WWIS o aumentar su participación.

This “Summary Guide to Survey Design and Delivery”, which is based on the publication “Introduction to Survey Design and Delivery” by NOAA Coastal Services Centre, has been produced as the result of the work of the Public Weather Services Expert Team on Services and Products Improvement (ET/SPI) mandated to provide guidance for National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) on developing user surveys and interpreting their results.
