Weather and Road Management

Anticipating and dealing with weather and the hazards it creates is a real challenge for those in departments of transportation. This module gives road and highway managers a basic understanding of meteorology and weather hazards so that they can better interpret weather forecast information used to make road management decisions. The module also highlights web-based forecast products available from the National Weather Service that can help in the decision-making process.

Cryosphere theme report. For the monitoring of our environment from Space and from Earth : an international partnership for cooperation in Earth observations

Data management objectives are detailed. Chapter 12 presents the Theme implementation considerations and their timeline. Throughout the report we will refer to the Cryosphere Theme as CryOS, the Cryosphere Observing System.

JCOMM Technical Report, 24. Ice chart colour code standard

While the WMO international standard for ice charts only dealt with black and white charts, in keeping with the paper facsimile technology of the time, colour has long been used to help differentiate the various ice conditions on a paper chart. In the last decade, progress in computer processing and communication, as well as increased demands of users prompted the necessity to develop a new WMO International Ice Colour Code Standard for ice charts.
