State of Australian Cities 2013
The world continues to urbanise. In 2008, for the first time in history more than half of the world's population lived in cities. By 2030, it is estimated that five billion people—80 per cent of humanity—will be urbanised.
For highly urbanised countries, a wrong step in urban policy can have national implications, especially when around 40 per cent of the national population live in just two cities (as is the case for Australia). FM 94 BUFR edition 3 and FM 95 CREX edition 1
The fifteenth session of the Commission for Basic Systems (CBS-XV) (Jakarta, Indonesia, 10-15 September 2012) agreed the BUFR editions 3 and the CREX edition 1 should be removed from the Manual on Codes, Volume I.2 (WMO-No. 306) and retained on the WMO Website.

WMO Technical Progress Report on the Global Data-Processing and Forecasting System (GDPFS) and Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) Research
Following a recommendation of some members, as a measure to avoid duplication of efforts, it was agreed to combine two important reports - the Annual WWW Tecnical Progress Report on the Global Data-Processing and Forecasting System (GDPFS) and the Annual Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) Progress Report - into one, starting with the report for the year 2005.
This new combined annual publication will serve as a means of updating the rapidly evolving facilities, research and services being implemented at GDPFS/NWP Centres as requirements and technology advance.

Weather and child health in rural Nigeria
The effect of weather shocks on children's anthropometrics is investigated using the two most recent rounds of the Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey. For this purpose, climate data for each survey cluster are interpolated using daily weather-station records from the national network. The findings reveal that rainfall shocks have a statistically significant and robust impact on child health in the short run for both weight-for-height and height-for-age, and the incidence of diarrhea. O.S.C.A.R.: Observing Systems Capability Analysis and Review Tool
OSCAR is a resource developed by WMO in support of Earth Observation applications, studies and global coordination.
It contains quantitative user-defined requirements for observation of physical variables in application areas of WMO (i.e. related to weather, water and climate). OSCAR also provides detailed information on all earth observation satellites and instruments, and expert analyses of space-based capabilities.
