AeM Series, 08. Proceedings of the Eighth International Workshop on Volcanic Ash (AEM Series No. 8)
The Eighth International Workshop on Volcanic Ash (IWVA-8) was held in Rotorua, New Zealand on 4 and 5 February 2023. Its purpose was to demonstrate the worldwide progress made in supporting the scientific and technological advancement within the international airways volcano watch (IAVW) over the past 10 years or more and to highlight where gaps and other limitations in capacity and capability still prevail. The IAVW is a worldwide system comprising meteorological, volcanological, geological and other facilities and services supporting continued safe and efficient aviation operations whenever ...

The IAVW is a worldwide system comprising meteorological, volcanological, geological and other facilities and services supporting continued safe and efficient aviation operations whenever and wherever volcanic eruptions are occurring and/or whenever and wherever volcanic ash clouds and gases are present in the atmosphere. Responding to the evolving needs of the aviation industry, the workshop sought to chart a path for scientific and technological advancement through the 2020s and beyond, thereby helping to inform the further development of the work plans of WMO and partner agencies.

GAW Report, 280. Fifth WMO Filter Radiometer Comparison (FRC-V) 27 September to 25 October 2021 Davos, Switzerland (GAW 280)
World Meteorological Organization (WMO) ; Stelios Kazadzis, Natalia Kouremeti, Julian Gröbner - WMO, 2023The Fifth Filter Radiometer Comparison (FRC-V) was held with one year of delay due to COVID-19 pandemic and relative restrictions, concurrently with the 13th International Pyrheliometer Comparison in Davos, Switzerland. Instrumentation belonging to different AOD global networks were invited and participated. Also, three reference instruments from the Calibration of Aerosol Remote Sensing (CARS) of the pan-European research infrastructure ACTRIS (Aerosol, Clouds and Trace Gases Research Infrastructure) facility participated. Published by: WMO ; 2023The Fifth Filter Radiometer Comparison (FRC-V) was held with one year of delay due to COVID-19 pandemic and relative restrictions, concurrently with the 13th International Pyrheliometer Comparison in Davos, Switzerland. The comparison took place at the premises of PMOD/WRC from September 27th to October 25th, 2021. Thirtytwo (32) filter radiometers and spectroradiometers from 12 countries participated in this campaign.
The objective of this campaign was to compare aerosol optical depth and Ångström exponents (AE) derived from different instruments belonging to different global, regional or national networks in order to quantify the main factors that are responsible for possible deviations. The aim of the whole activity was to initiate action towards homogenization of the AOD measurements on a global scale. The comparison protocol was formulated according to the WMO recommendations. Measurements of each instrument were compared to the WORCC Precision Filter Radiometer (PFR) reference triad.Collection(s) and Series: GAW Report- No. 280

World Meteorological Organization (WMO) ; National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA); United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP); et al. - WMO, 2022To help maintain a broad understanding of the relationship between ozone depletion, ODSs, and the Montreal Protocol, this component of the Scientific Assessment of Ozone Depletion: 2014 presents 20 questions and answers about the often-complex science of ozone depletion. Most questions and answers are updates of those presented in previous Ozone Assessments, and a few have been expanded to address newly emerging issues. The questions address the nature of atmospheric ozone, the chemicals that cause ozone deple tion, how global and polar ozone depletion occur, the extent of ozone depletion, the ...
