Maritime Forecasting, Meteorology and WMO: History and Evolution traces the history of marine meteorology. The International Maritime Conference in Brussels in 1853 resulted in initial steps for standardization in the making and recording of weather and ocean observations, and also led to the First International Meteorological Congress in Vienna in 1873. This Congress ultimately led to establishment of the International Meteorological Organization – the forerunner of WMO.

SatFC-J: The AMSR2 Microwave Imager
This short lesson describes the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer 2 (AMSR2) on board the next-generation polar-orbiting satellite platforms. AMSR2’s primary mission is to improve scientists’ understanding of climate by providing estimates of precipitation, water vapor, cloud water, wind velocity, sea surface temperature, sea ice concentration, snow depth, and soil moisture.
