This booklet gives a description of WMO's activities related to the climate change issue, including the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report findings.
Climate and urban development
This booklet, a contribution to the Second United Nations Conference on Human Settlements (HABITAT II) in Istanbul, reviews the relationship between climate and human settlement. Focus is on how urbanization may influence both the local climate and global climate change. It is suggested that any negative influence can be mitigated through planning, building and operating urban areas in harmony with climate.

This report addresses the major interactions between climate and land surface processes on a large scale. Particular emphasis is given to surface hydrology and the role of vegetation in the context of global change (i.e. changes in the physical, chemical and biological processes of the Earth's surface and atmosphere).

This is the first of a series of annual statements. It summarizes anomalous climatic events of the year and presents historical trends of significant climatic parameters. Information was provided by the Climate Analysis Center, USA, with inputs from climate centres in Australia, Germany, the Russian Federation, Spain and the United Kingdom.
