Published by: WMOThis booklet, produced jointly by the World Meteorological Organization and the World Farmers’ Organisation, will serve to provide background information on climate change and its causes, the impacts on agriculture, proposed adaptation and mitigation actions, and provide case studies with concrete examples of possible solutions for farmers. In particular, this booklet aims to offer insights into the following research question: what are the impacts of climate change on agriculture and how can farmers adapt to and mitigate climate change? The objective of the booklet is twofold. Farmers all over the world can use this booklet, with information about climate change and research, case studies and best practices as an information tool. In addition, the booklet will also be useful for policy makers in highlighting what policy measures are needed and what initiatives governments can take to assist farmers to adapt to and mitigate climate change.

Adaptation gap report
This report provides a framework for defining adaptation gaps and a preliminary assessment of the gap between adaptation needs and reality. It proposes an approach for identifying and assessing the current state and action in key adaptation areas, and comparing these with the potential now, and in the future, for additional adaptation to reduce risks. The report is a response to calls for UNEP to produce a report on adaptation gaps to complement the annual Emissions Gap report.

Capacity-building Portal
"The UNFCCC Secretariat has launched a Capacity-building Portal, a tool developed to help monitor and review capacity built to better mitigate and adapt to climate change. Users are able to customize search criteria, visualize data through interactive maps, bubbles and multicolored pie charts, line up results in tables and print them.
More specifically, the portal allows for: reviewing the types of capacity-building support provided at the global, regional and country level; tracking specific project activities and programmes; identifying and building on best practices; and iden ...

ACQWA: A summary for policymakers
The project seeks to assess the vulnerability of water resources in mountain regions such as the European Alps, the Central Chilean Andes, and the mountains of Central Asia (Kyrgyzstan) where declining snow and ice are likely to strongly affect hydrological regimes in a warmer climate. Model results are then used to quantify the environmental, economic and social impacts of changing water resources in order to assess how robust current water governance strategies are and what adaptations may be needed in order to alleviate the most negative impacts of climate change on water resources and wate ...

CCORAL: Caribbean Climate Online Risk and Adaptation Tool
The Caribbean Climate Online Risk and Adaptation Tool (CCORAL) outlines a step-by-step process to identify if an activity, such as a project, programme, strategy, plan, policy or legislation, is influenced by, or vulnerable to, climate change. CCORAL then creates pathways for the identification and implementation of adaptation and mitigation options.
CCORAL provides information both at the regional and country level. However, only the CARICOM countries can currently be selected individually when using CCORAL, although CCCCC emphasizes that it is possible to expand the tool to co ...

Comparative analysis of climate change vulnerability assessments: Lessons from Tunisia and Indonesia
Vulnerability assessments (VAs) are central to shaping climate change adaptation decisions, providing a basis for devising measures that will minimise or avoid harm to humans and ecological systems. Yet the wide variety of VA approaches can be confusing for practitioners, creating uncertainty about the ‘right’ approach. This paper reviews and compares VAs undertaken in Indonesia and Tunisia to distil key approaches, components and lessons. It begins with a general overview of definitions, approaches and challenges with conducting VAs, and then proposes a framework for analysing and comparing t ...

Annual Bulletin on the Climate in WMO Region VI - Europe and Middle East
European Climate Support Network (ECSN); World Meteorological Organization (WMO) ; Deutscher Wetterdienst (DWD) - DWD, 1999-[...]Climate monitoring in Europe used to be done mainly on a national scale. As scientific interest is more and more focusing on the regional cross-border implications of a possible climate change, routine monitoring of regional climate for whole Europe is becoming more and more important. The need for a more co-ordinated approach to the preparation of climate system monitoring information led to the idea to publish an annual regional climate monitoring Bulletin. The eleventh session of the WMO Regional Association VI (RA VI), which took place in Oslo in May 1994, approved the proposal.

Enhancing Resilience to Climate and Ecosystem Changes in Semi-Arid Africa : an integrated approach (CECAR-AFRICA)
As a part of global efforts to tackle impacts of climate and ecosystem changes, we urgently need to overcome vulnerability of terrestrial ecosystems in developing countries, especially Africa. This research program aims for three objectives by focusing on the semi-arid region of northern Ghana where the change impacts have been severely felt in forms of unpredictable floods and droughts: (1) forecast and assessment of climate and ecosystem change impact on agricultural production; (2) risk assessment of extreme weather events and introduction of adaptive water resource management methods; and ...
