The Stakeholders Workshop for JCOMM-CHy Coastal Inundation Forecasting Demonstration Project (CIFDP-BSW) was opened at 1000 hours in the conference room of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), Dhaka, Bangladesh, at the kind invitation of BMD. The Stakeholders Workshop for JCOMM-CHy Coastal Inundation Forecasting Demonstration Project (CIFDP-BSW) was opened at 1000 hours in the conference room of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), Dhaka, Bangladesh, at the kind invitation of BMD. Dr Arjumand Habib, Director of Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) and the Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to WMO, welcomed all participants from national agencies and the Project Steering Group. In her opening remark, she emphasized the importance of this timely initiative of CIFDP to protect life and property in the coastal zones of Bangladesh, and urged all participants from Bangladesh and from the Project Steering Group to make utmost efforts to achieve the goal in close partnership.
The objectives of workshop included: clearly defining the roles of national stakeholders participating in the project implementation, for a Definitive National Agreement; and,
collecting and review stakeholders’ needs and requirements, for detailed design of the Bangladesh sub-project proposal to funding agencies.
The Stakeholders Workshop involved more than 50 participants including members of the Project Steering Group and other international experts as well as a large number of stakeholder agencies in Bangladesh, including the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB), Cyclone Preparedness Programme (CPP), Disaster Management Bureau (DMB), and Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG), Regional Integrated Multi-Hazard Early Warning System For Africa and Asia (RIMES), and many others.
All participants, under the guidance of WMO and the Project Steering Group (PSG), actively discuss on the current status of coastal inundation forecasting/warning in Bangladesh, and on the required development and general direction in implementing the CIFDP National Sub-Project in Bangladesh (CIFDP-B). As the final outcome of this workshop, a Definitive National Agreement (DNA) and Terms of Reference for the CIFDP-B National Coordination Team (NCT) were agreed by all participating stakeholders. The Project Steering Group (PSG) and all participants also agreed on the work plan for the first year of the National Sub-project (CIFDP-B).
