Application of building climatology to the problems of housing and building for human settlements
World Meteorological Organization (WMO) ; United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) - WMO, 1976 (WMO-No. 441)This report attempts to discuss the systematics of building climatology in relation to building design. Chapter 1 attempts to outline the general scope of building climatology. Chapter 2 provides a detailed analysis of the meteorologist's contribution to the improvement of the safety of buildings exposed to weather extremes of one kind or another. Chapter 3 describes systematic processes for harnessing meteorological data into the actual building design and construction process. It assumes, as a fundamental requirement, that it is important to work out how best to achieve an appropriate balanc ...

It assumes, as a fundamental requirement, that it is important to work out how best to achieve an appropriate balance between human needs and the human environment, conceived here of course in physical terms. Stress is laid on the normal sequence of the building design process and the need to design outdoor spaces carefully to complement the indoor spaces, for both are inter-related. Chapter 4 provides detailed information about physical environmental criteria for assessing human needs in and around buildings. Finally, Chapter 5 gives more specific information on selected detailed aspects of building climatology. No attempt has been made to provide a systematic bibliography. References have been selected primarily to help urbanists and meteorologists find some key references that can get them started working on and giving advice on specific meteorological aspects of buildings

Urban climatology and its relevance to urban design
World Meteorological Organization (WMO) ; United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) - WMO, 1976 (WMO-No. 438)As a guide to planners, Chapter 1 of this Technical Note considers the various mass, moisture, heat and momentum exchanges within the urban boundary layer; Chapter 2 describes the conséquences of thèse as they affect the distribution patterns of each of the meteorological éléments; and Chapter 3 considers the implications of urban climates to successful urban design, together with the logistics of the climatic input into the planning process.

Adaptation gap report
This report provides a framework for defining adaptation gaps and a preliminary assessment of the gap between adaptation needs and reality. It proposes an approach for identifying and assessing the current state and action in key adaptation areas, and comparing these with the potential now, and in the future, for additional adaptation to reduce risks. The report is a response to calls for UNEP to produce a report on adaptation gaps to complement the annual Emissions Gap report.

Many Strong Voices (MSV) - Arctic, Small Islands Developing States
The goal of Many Strong Voices is to promote the well-being, security, and sustainability of coastal communities in the Arctic and Small Island Developing States (SIDS) by bringing these regions together to take action on climate change mitigation and adaptation, and to tell their stories to the world.
The Arctic and SIDS are barometers of global environmental change. As they are on the frontlines of climate change, they are also critical testing grounds for the ideas and programmes that will strengthen the adaptive capacities of human societies confronting climate change.

World Climate Impact Assessment and Response Strategies Programme (WCIRP)
World Meteorological Organization (WMO) ; United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP); Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO); et al. - WMOWorld Climate Impacts Assessment and Response Strategies Programme (WCIRP) is one of the WCP four sub-programs and is targeted at assessing the impacts of climate variability and changes that could markedly affect economic or social activities and thus contributing to the development of a range of socio-economic response strategies that could be used by governments and the community. UNEP is the leading agency within WCIRP and implements the programme in partnership with WMO, FAO, IPCC and UNFCCC Secretariats.

World Meteorological Organization (WMO) ; Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC); United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) - IPCCThe Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is the leading international body for the assessment of climate change. It was established by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) to provide the world with a clear scientific view on the current state of knowledge in climate change and its potential environmental and socio-economic impacts. The UN General Assembly endorsed the action by WMO and UNEP in jointly establishing the IPCC.
