Report on the workshop on equitable access to sustainable development

A workshop on equitable access to sustainable development (EASD) was organized by the secretariat, under the guidance of the Chair of the Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the Convention (AWG-LCA), and was held on 16 May 2012 in Bonn, Germany. The workshop provided an opportunity for participants to exchange views on EASD and equity in general, including on the following: the context for equity and EASD

the definition of equity

application of the equity principle

and possible next steps. Discussion points included the following: decoupling carbon dioxide emissions from economic growth

national circumstances

historical and future responsibilities

and the suggested way forward. The main points raised at the workshop can serve as input to relevant further discussion and consideration by the AWG-LCA at its resumed fifteenth session.
